Casting the first girder segment of Metro line 1

VNEXPRESS dated 6th April.2015: Ho Chi Minh City is casting the first girder segment of Metro line 1. 

Weight of 42 tons, the first girder segment is one of 4563 segments of Metro Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Line 1 have casted for installation in beginning June with the first technology using in Viet Nam.

The morning of 6^th April 2015, the Management Authority for Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway and Contractor carry casting the first segment - Elevated of Urban Railway line 1 after 2,5 years prepare. Mr. Bui Xuan Truong - Chairman of the Management for Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway said that “This work mark a new period of Metro Line 1 Project. Technology using typical U girder are constructed by Pre-cast segment method and span by span method using launching girder, it also requires level, technique very height from factory to transport, installation in the site. May be said that this is the firt time technology apply in Viet Nam”.

Casting segment is Contract Package 2: “Civil Elevated and Depot” with the main items include: 5 special bridges; 11 stations elevated; 14.5 km viaduct and one depot has area over 27 ha. In which, 12 km viaduct will be constructed by launching on moving scaffolding system.

With this method construction, the girder of viaduct (simple girder) have typical aperture 35 m ( some girder have shorter typical span) will be divided into 13 beams section; including 2 top piles have length of  1.7 m and 11 middlegirders with length of 2.8 m. The girder segments have section U-shaped will be prefabricated and then transport to the site by special truck. Each span have 13 girger segments will be hung on the moving scaffolding system and erection into a viaduct span completed.The girder segments are linked together by eternal shear key, epoxy glue and prestressed cable along the span.

Each girder segment has the largest weight of about 42tons; each typical U girder 35 m, weight about 500 tons. Totall girder segment will prefabricated in casting yard is 4.536 segments (equivalent 372 spans elevated). Installation girder will carry out from beginning next June, follow rolling form, casting and install for 2 years

U Girder is designed by SYSTRA Contractor (France); contructed and launhed girder by FVR.  Design of U girder will create the aestheticism, slender rod, simultaneous 2 girder ribs make the wall to prevent noise.

The project Metro Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien has a total capital of 2.49 billion USD (47,000 billion VND) was started in August 2012. According to the design, the project isnearly 20 km in length.It will pass through District 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh District, Thu Duc District of Ho Chi Minh City and Di An town of Binh Duong Province. In which, 2.6 km underground (3 stations) and 17.1 km elevated (11 stations).Project is expected to complete in 2019 andwill operate in 2020.
