THE FIRST GIRDER INSTALLATION OF METRO LINE 1 IN JUNE 2015

This morning of 4^th June, first using launching gantry technology applied in Vietnam, the girder segments (each weighing 42 tons) of Metro Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien is installed

According to the Management Authority for Urban Railways, in the section girder installation, total 12km long of viaduct will be erection on launching girder assembly. With this construction method, the span of viaduct (simple span) typically span 35m in length (some shorter span) will be divided in to 13 segments; including 2 top segments are 1.7m in length and 11 middle segments are 2.8m in length.

The girder installation is divided into 3 locations (with 3 set of launching girder assembly): in Thao Dien Ward, District 2; Linh Trung Ward and Truong Tho ward, Thu Duc District. The segment typical U-girder, ware casting in District 9 (total of 4,536 segments) then transported to the site by specialized trucks.  

Each of the spans including 13 girder segments are linked together by eternal shear key, epoxy glue and tensioned cables along the span.

From today the girder installation work will be carried out in the form of a rolling, casting has just erection lasted for two years. The segment typical U-girder design by French contractor, expected for the slender beauty. At the same time capable of combating noise. 

Speaking at the ceremony, HCM City Chairman Le Hoang Quan said that the first girder installation is very important and great significance to the Metro Line 1 construction project. It is also important package to decide to the progress of the entire project. 

Metro Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien project has a total capital of 2.46 billion USD (47,000 billion VNĐ) was started in August 2012. By design, the 20km long route, passing through districts 1, 2, 9, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc (HCMC) and Di An District (Binh Duong), in which about 2,6km underground (3 stations) and more than 17km elevated & Depot (11 Stations). The investor side, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong – Chairman said that: Up to Now, Metro Line 1 project has reached 6 million safety working hours, the machinery, especially the construction cranes at sites are checked, tested.

Expected construction time to be completed in 2019 and put in to exploitation since 2020. However, recently Management Authority for Urban Railways said than 17km elevated of this Metro Line could be operational in 2018, three years earlier than planned.
